Supporting Students Through Exam Pressure
As a teacher, you know what it’s like to see students work hard all year, only to crumble under the pressure on exam day. This is where my work comes in.
With over ten years of experience teaching at secondary level, I understand how stressful exam periods can be and that some students feel that pressure far more intensely than others.
When students understand what stress is doing in their mind, emotions, behaviour, and body, and have practical tools to respond to it, everything changes!
The aim isn’t to eliminate nerves. It’s to help students use that energy rather than be overwhelmed by it, so they can approach exams with greater confidence, steadiness, and self-trust.
That’s when students are able to step up to exam time as the best versions of themselves and when we begin to see their true potential realised.
Tailored WorkshopsÂ
Schools are busy, energetic, and inspiring places and the demands on them continue to grow.
Alongside teaching and learning, staff are balancing curriculum pressure, exams, student welfare, extracurricular activities, and leadership roles. It’s meaningful work and it’s a lot.
I design tailored workshops for students and staff that respond to the real pressures your school is facing. This can include exam stress, confidence, focus, anxiety, team connection, and managing sustained pressure during busy periods.
Staff Training
Alongside student work, I deliver staff training that helps educators stay clear-headed under pressure, step up when needed, and maintain energy and enthusiasm across demanding terms. Teacher burnout is a growing issue and my role is to support staff with practical, psychology-informed approaches that help them continue to do their work well, without running themselves into the ground.
When staff are supported, the impact is felt across the whole school community.
Experience That Understands Schools
My work is informed by training in psychology and over ten years teaching at secondary level.
I understand the realities of school systems, the pressures staff and students face, and what works in practice.
In addition to in-school workshops, I offer online programmes, one-to-one support, and consultations with school leadership, recognising that steadiness at the top shapes the entire school community.
“This class was just fantastic. Mary put everyone at ease instantly/ This was a fabulous experience for a whole staff, that everyone got something out of. The resources she has provided for us to use afterwards ourselves look great
.It was a rewarding session to complete as a whole staff and definitely contributed to an overall feel- good- factor. Mary was so accommodating working with our school’s availability and supporting individual needs. Mary is so passionate about and committed to her practice. We look forward to availing of her expertise again in the future. Thank you Mary!”
